I have been a basketball official for more than thirty years. I tossed my first jump-ball in 1991 when I was 17: a game between two locals under 16 teams not far away from where I grew up in Northern Italy. I then enjoyed growing as an official, first officiating senior provincial games and then regional ones. When likely I was going to make it to the national level in 2002, I moved to London as I was pursuing an MA and later a Ph.D. I officiated at the national level in the UK, in fact, I worked hard and directed playoff games and finals. In 2005 I was offered the chance to officiate games for the BBL (British Basketball League), which propelled me into the amazing world of professional basketball. In 2009 I then moved to Macomb (IL), and I had to restart from scratch. Almost everything was different from FIBA Europe but equally exciting. I adjusted rather quickly, learned a new set of rules, and got to appreciate High Scholl basketball (IHSA).

In 2015 I moved back to Europe, this time Ireland where I started officiating the Super League. It has been an interesting and challenging experience as I had to resettle and restart once again, however I very much enjoyed being able to officiate once again at senior level. In 2019, as with the family, we moved back to America, this time to Wilmette (IL), I thought time had come to retire. The pandemic halted every activity, and I believed my time on court was over. A few emails from people I knew from my earliest time in Illinois have done the job of bringing me back on court, once again officiating IHSA games and getting ready for a possible spell in Collegiate Basketball: time will tell. Officiating is an integral part of my life, I know one day I will have to retire, but as of now, I hope to share my experience and help the local community.
