I was intrigued by your recent article, "Mormon Church faces SEC probe over past efforts to keep the size of its $100 billion investment a secret," and appreciated your presentation of both sides of the issue.

I have a small request. The Church has asked that journalists refer to it by its official name, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the first reference and use "the Church" or "The Church of Jesus Christ" for any subsequent abbreviations. They have also requested that the nicknames "Mormon Church" or "LDS Church" be avoided, as these omit the name of Jesus Christ.

As we have made progress in stopping the use of nicknames when referring to members of marginalized communities, I believe it would be helpful to extend the same respect to members of religious faiths, even if we may disagree on certain issues. By doing so, we can help build bridges and promote understanding.

One request for the future: the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has asked that the media avoid nicknames for the church, and instead use its full name in the first media reference to it. They also asked that the media refer to members of the faith as "members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," "members of the Church of Jesus Christ," or "Latter-day Saints."

This is important to me personally, as nicknames omit the central figure of my faith—Jesus Christ. Thanks again for an excellent article.
